Fragua, Cliff
The stone speaks to me by its color and sound. I look at the color and characteristics of the stone, I then tap it to listen for a ringing sound. If it rings, then the stone is solid. I interpret the ringing as singing, hence the name of my studio, Singing Stone Studio.Cliff Fragua is a native Pueblo sculptor who has chosen to work in stone because is represents a combination of the basic elements of the earth.
Bronzesmith uses the stone sculpture to create a silicon rubber mold to make a bronze sculpture of Fraguas favorite pieces.
He was honored to be chosen by the state of New Mexico to create a seven foot Tennessee marble sculpture of Pope for the National Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. This was installed in 2005.
